Marine

In the maritime industry, companies offering marine transportation are required by international law to demonstrate their capability in the roles they are assigned through a variety of assessment methods. By contrast, US vessels of less than 200 tons are not required to follow the Integrated Management System (IMS) and Safety Management System (SMS) mandates, even though many do. The United States Coast Guard (USCG) is currently working to establish an SMS for all vessels under 200 tons operating in US waters on the Outer Continental Shelf  based on the API RP 75 ruling, which is aligned with the recent Safety and Environmental Systems (SEMS) regulation managed and controlled by the Bureau of Safety & Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) for offshore operators in US waters.

Understanding what the ruling requires is the first step to determine the best approach to comply. Shea CCS is ready to help our clients understand the impact and implication of this new USCG ruling for Marine owners.
